Snail
is no hurry, because
he's everywhere at home...
Of course, normal snails have two pairs of eyes and use the other two antennae for smell and touch. In the case of this fantasy one, it's different. His name is Mr. Snail “Four-Eyes”.
It was a pleasure to create illustrations for the well-known Czech magazine FONT, which regularly reports on news from the world of graphic design, corporate identity and creative work. I was given a very free hand to realize the cover. In addition, the magazine published a four-page interview with me about my work.
I decided to create the main theme in a playful naive fairytale style. The idea of a little snail carrying a giant house and also being the builder of his own shell was fun for me.
CONCEPT
I first sent sketches to the editors from the magazine with an idea for the cover motif. They liked it and I decided to realize it through 3D graphics.
3D SNAIL
Below you can see a preview of the creation. Scene with textures, without textures. You can also see the real-time 3D model. I didn't originally create the scene for this purpose, so it has more complex geometry (more polygons) than is appropriate for realtime online graphics. I wanted to test the then new sketchfab platform for sharing 3D models online.
FINAL IMAGE
I was very pleased that my illustration elicited a number of positive responses from people who wrote to me saying they were pleased and amused by the cover.
I didn't want to take the topic too seriously, even though I once studied civil engineering and terms like geodesy, statics and descrptiva are not completely alien to me.
