And how it's made?
Pilot of the kid's series
How things work…

A stylized cartoon environment is inhabited by tiny workers. A children's series designed to tell the story of how things are made in an unpretentious and fun way, while leaving room for children's playfulness and imagination.

PRODUCTION

As part of a now defunct team (ACE post), we produced the first preview pilot episode of the original series in about one month. It was an original creation of the ACE post studio. I spent a month working on developing the machine designs, visuals and environments. It was a very interesting and relaxing job, and thanks to the team already in place, it went very well and we really enjoyed its playfulness.

STORY

In the first preview episode (the pilot of the series), the little viewers got to learn how matches are made. I have to admit that we learnt ourselves from how interesting and systematic the process is. Considering that it was a children's show, we visualized everything in the form of play, cartoon and exaggeration, in addition to technical names like "sodium phosphate". The intention was to teach the children something, but also to entertain them. So there were funny moments when the "little workers" dried matches on pedal bikes with propellers, or rode merrily on the treadmills and slides.

Environment design

I designed the environment design to best relate to the animation action. Working closely with the excellent character animator Peter Harakaly, we worked out the size of the machines, the slides, the different tracks and the fun sketches of a grotesque nature that would entertain

One pilot episode was made

As part of the intended series concept, the first pilot episode was made with a presentation of the visuals and a sample storyline.

The intention was to offer it on the newly emerging children's channel of Czech Television (ČT Déčko), but CT decided that it was not interested in such a thing and it was easier to buy licenses for already finished works from foreign distributors than to deal with its own production.

Thus, the series remained at the stage of searching for a possible investor and distributor who would be interested in its production.
